about ccrn

ABOUT OUR RESCUE

Our mission is to improve the lives of feral and homeless cats by humanely stopping their breeding through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). TNR is the only proven maintenance program to be effective, humane and long term in controlling feral and stray cat populations.  Under the TNR program, feral cats are humanely trapped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their original location for continued oversight by their caregivers.  The left ear is “tipped” as a universal identifier that the cat has been sterilized and vaccinated. We do not relocate cats and do not have the capability to take additional cats or kittens into our care.

Our Vision

Community Cats Rescue Network (CCRN), a small, volunteer-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the humane treatment and control of feral and stray cats. This rescue was formed in Fredericksburg, Virginia. However, in 2018 CCRN expanded its services to SW Virginia covering counties of Wythe, Bland, and surrounding areas.

DID YOU KNOW

  1.  A female cat will have four to five heat cycles per year, with each cycle potentially resulting in a pregnancy and litter of multiple kittens.
  2. Spayed females no longer have multiple pregnancies to carry and litters of kittens to care for and they become healthier cats.
  3. Neutered males no longer roam and endure serious injuries or contract/spread viruses due to fighting with other male cats.

Help Our Cause

CCRN assisted with spaying and neutering over 425 cats in calendar year 2023. As stated, we use the low-cost spay neuter clinics vs veterinarian clinics; however, there are most always added costs each trip and donations received are expended quickly.

We hope we can count on your support in our efforts to raise awareness of the plight of the feral and stray cat populations in our neighborhoods, and to come together as a community to share the responsibilities of humanely controlling the population growth of both feral and pet cats through affordable spay and neuter.

ccrn ...what we do

WE STRIVE TO PROTECT THE WELFARE OF THE COMMUNITY CATS BY:

  •   Collaborating with low cost spay/neuter clinics for affordable sterilization and vaccination of feral, stray, and pet cats.
  • Offering the use of traps (with refundable deposit) and proper instruction to residents wishing to spay and neuter community cats.
  • Providing hands-on trapping and transportation assistance for those not able to do it themselves, or when working with larger colonies.
  • Educating the general public about the plight of stray and feral cats and the importance of spaying/neutering and microchipping domestic pet cats.
  • Providing a voice and support for community cats and their caregivers by bringing awareness to the beneficial roles they play in our communities.
  • Promoting our belief that these cats deserve a place in our society, one in which their lives are respected and safeguarded.
  • Promoting support for long-term, caregiver-based solutions regarding community cats.
  • Networking extensively with reputable rescue groups to help foster and put up for adoption kittens and friendly adults taken from TNR colonies.

OUR COMMITTENT IS TO:

  •   Help facilitate the work of caregivers in caring for outdoor cats and controlling feral cat population growth.
  • Provide an affordable, humane, and cost-effective alternative to euthanasia in local shelters, through TNR and ongoing managed care of unsocialized cats, and adoption of tame cats and kittens.
  • Promote community awareness of the responsible care and treatment of both domestic and feral cat populations.
  • Have a significant impact in decreasing the number of unwanted and unadoptable cats that are killed at our local kill-shelters every year.
